Northern California, February 11, 2011–Grandma Hoerner's Food's was declared a U.S.A. Taste Champion, bestowed by the prestigious American Masters of Taste, headquartered in Santa Ana, California.
Grandma Hoerner's Foods, Inc. was selected as the winning product line in the "Apple Sauce, flavored," "Chutney," "Preserves – regular & organic," "Grape Jelly, organic" and 'Fudge Dessert Topping" categories for retail.
The judging was conducted "triple blind" in Northern California by a panel of Chef Masters of Taste. The Chef du Jury was famed Mâitre du Goût (Master of Taste) Jesse Sartain. Their "Big Slice Apricot Apple Sauce, Big Slice Strawberry Apple Sauce, Big Slice Cinnamon Apple Sauce, Big Slice Cinnamon Apple Sauce, Organic Reduced Sugar Apricot Preserves, Organic Concord Grape Jelly, Reduced Sugar Orange Marmalade, Strawberry Preserve, Raspberry Preserve, Dark Fudge Dessert Topping, Apricot Mango Chutney, Cranberry Walnut Chutney" were all judged Superior.
The judging was a part of the on-going U.S.A. Taste Championships founded in 1989 with the establishment of the Chefs In America Awards Foundation, whose professional board members gather weekly to conduct taste tests on a myriad of foodservice and retail grocery products.
The protocols of triple-blind judging include several ground rules to ensure accurate and fair results. As an example, evaluators do not know the product's manufacturer, its variety or appellation. In addition, the judges do not know the scores and comments of other evaluators.
"We commend the culinary commitment of the staff of Grandma Hoerner's for the excellence and innovation of their product line. We applaud them," commented Jesse Sartain.
